Who recognises your diploma

In every country a different organisation deals with a foreign diploma. Below is which one, and where its own site is.

Such an organisation issues an assessment or an opinion on your qualification. The admission decision stays with the university.

Recognition organisations by country

  • Germany

    Germany is the exception. anabin is an information database of the standing conference of education ministers (KMK), not an office that hands out recognition: it shows the status of a foreign institution and the class of a diploma, and admission is decided by the university. Papers from foreign applicants usually go through the central application service (uni-assist).

  • Netherlands

  • Austria

    Austrian diploma-recognition centre (ENIC-NARIC Austria / AAIS)

    In Austria the service is called Bewertung — in plain words, an assessment of what your qualification is worth, not a recognition of it. The paper describes the level and the content of your diploma; whether that is enough for a particular programme is decided by the university.
