Deutschlandstipendium
German universities + BMBF (federal) & private donors
Overview
The Deutschlandstipendium is a merit-based grant offered directly by German universities as a public-private partnership.
It pays €300 per month — €150 from the federal government and €150 from a private sponsor — for at least two semesters, independent of your or your parents' income, and can be combined with BAföG.
Who can apply
- Open to enrolled and prospective students of all nationalities at participating German universities — international students qualify.
- Selection weighs academic achievement alongside social engagement, personal circumstances and background.
- Amounts and rules are fixed nationally; award numbers depend on how many private sponsors each university secures.
How to apply
- 1
Apply directly to your university — each one runs its own call, form and deadline (often in summer or early in the semester).
- 2
There is no central portal; search your university's Deutschlandstipendium page.
- 3
Check deutschlandstipendium.de and your university for the current cycle.
