Study in Latvia from Belarus
RSU is the main draw for Belarus→Latvia medicine. OCMA scrutiny is real. Financial proof must come from non-Belarusian banking.
Document requirements partly collected
Fact10 items in the pack. Some of them apply to only part of the 102 programmes we hold for this country — the exact list depends on the university.
We review the pack for completeness and consistency. Whether a document is genuine is decided by the university or the consulate. Source verification may be required.
What this route does not require
Not a promise — a rule of the route. Every line is derived from one data field and names what it rests on.
No separate work permit is required — the right to work part-time comes with student status.

What it does require
The other side of the same list. Amounts and scores are in the facts above.
- Proof of funds in an account — mandatory.
- A language certificate — mandatory.
- Paid diploma recognition through AIC (aic.lv/en).
What works on this route
- OCMA scrutiny for Belarusian citizens is elevated — Latvia has a strong anti-Lukashenko position. Full documentation required.
- RSU historically accepts Belarusian students for medicine — established nostrification pipeline.
- AIC recognition required (€50–100, 2–4 weeks).
- SWIFT blocked — financial proof must come from non-Belarusian account (Lithuania/Poland/Georgia).
Why applications get rejected
- AIC recognition not obtained
- OCMA permit denied — documentation gap
- SWIFT transfer for tuition failed

After visa: settling in
- 1Collect your residence-permit card from OCMA (PMLP) after arrival and keep your declared address current.
- 2University dorms (RTU, University of Latvia) are cheap; Riga private rental is moderate — arrange it before you land rather than from a hostel.
- 3Open a bank account (Swedbank, SEB) with the residence card and address registration.
- 4Health insurance is mandatory for the residence permit — keep cover unbroken across renewals.
