Study in Latvia from Kyrgyzstan
RSU medicine and TSI's Russian-medium IT are the real draws for Kyrgyzstan. No Bishkek mission means the visa step routes through Kazakhstan — start early — and watch the proposed Latvian-A2 rule.
What works on this route
- Clean case — no political scrutiny for Kyrgyz citizens. RSU runs an established Central Asia medicine pipeline; apply in the first round (April–May).
- Visa logistics: Latvia has no Bishkek mission — file via VFS Global / the Latvian embassy in Kazakhstan; plan the cross-border step.
- Policy watch: Latvia has proposed requiring Latvian-language A2 before graduation for some study tracks — verify the current rule for your programme before committing.
- AIC recognition required (€50–100, 2–4 weeks). Latvian State Scholarships (VIAA) cover a rotating list of countries — confirm Kyrgyz eligibility for the year at viaa.gov.lv.
- TSI (Transport and Telecommunication Institute) offers Russian-language IT programmes — a natural fit for Kyrgyz students.
Why applications get rejected
- AIC recognition not obtained
- Missed RSU medicine early round
- No mission in Bishkek — visa step started too late

After visa: settling in
- 1Collect your residence-permit card from OCMA (PMLP) after arrival and keep your declared address current.
- 2University dorms (RTU, University of Latvia) are cheap; Riga private rental is moderate — arrange it before you land rather than from a hostel.
- 3Open a bank account (Swedbank, SEB) with the residence card and address registration.
- 4Health insurance is mandatory for the residence permit — keep cover unbroken across renewals.
