What works on this route
- The university, as a recognised sponsor, files the long-stay entry visa (MVV) and the residence permit as a single package — the student never applies at the embassy, so a missed university deadline is a missed visa.
- Georgia is not on the MVV-exemption list of the immigration service (IND), so the long-stay entry visa (MVV) is required; it is collected in Tbilisi only after the IND has decided.
- Proof of means is €1,130.77/month — €13,569 for the year, tuition excluded — at the immigration service's (IND) 2026 rate.
- Work is capped at 16 hours a week during term or full-time in June–August, and the employer needs a work permit (TWV) either way.
- Student finance from the Dutch education agency (DUO) is unavailable — it is limited to EEA nationals and long-term residents.
Why applications get rejected
- Financial proof rejected by the immigration service (IND) on format — the wrong statement type or the wrong holder.
- IELTS below 6.0 for an English-taught programme.
- Studielink deadline missed — 1 May in general, 15 January for numerus fixus programmes.

After visa: settling in
- 1Register with the municipality (gemeente) to get your BSN (citizen service number) — needed for a bank account, insurance, a job and a phone contract.
- 2Lock down housing BEFORE you fly: the Amsterdam / Utrecht / Delft / Eindhoven shortage is severe. Never transfer a deposit for a room you haven't seen via a verified party — sight-unseen rental scams are common.
- 3Start with your university housing office, then register on ROOM.nl / DUWO and Studentenwoningweb; for Amsterdam run a parallel search on Student Experience, OurCampus, The Social Hub, Hospi Housing, HousingAnywhere and Kamernet.
- 4Open a Dutch bank account once you have a BSN and address (most webshops and rent payments expect iDEAL / a local IBAN).
- 5If you take a side job alongside study you must switch to Dutch basic health insurance (basisverzekering); a pure full-time student keeps international/travel cover instead.
