Study in Netherlands from Kyrgyzstan
Academically strong, but the long-stay entry visa (MVV) must be collected in Astana — budget the Kazakhstan trip and watch the 3-month window. Funding is thinner than for KZ (no OTS track), so Holland Scholarship + university grants matter.
Document requirements partly collected
Fact8 items in the pack. Some of them apply to only part of the 77 programmes we hold for this country — the exact list depends on the university.
We review the pack for completeness and consistency. Whether a document is genuine is decided by the university or the consulate. Source verification may be required.
What this route does not require
Not a promise — a rule of the route. Every line is derived from one data field and names what it rests on.
No separate work permit is required — the right to work part-time comes with student status.
FactSources:Residence permit from the immigration service (IND) includes work rightsNo payment workarounds are needed — tuition and fees go through an ordinary bank transfer.

What it does require
The other side of the same list. Amounts and scores are in the facts above.
- Proof of funds in an account — mandatory.
- A language certificate — mandatory.
What works on this route
- Long-stay entry visa (MVV) in a third country: the Netherlands has no issuing mission in Kyrgyzstan — plan a trip to Astana (Kazakhstan) to collect it within the ~3-month window after approval by the immigration service (IND).
- The university runs the TEV procedure with the immigration service (IND) on your behalf — financial proof and admission go through the institution; Kyrgyz bank statements are accepted.
- Holland Scholarship: €5,000 one-time grant for non-EEA students — check per university whether Kyrgyz applicants are in scope.
- Long-stay entry visa (MVV) financial proof: pay tuition / show funds to the university account early; the TEV clock starts only after that.
Why applications get rejected
- Missed the collection window for the long-stay entry visa (MVV) — 3 months
- Financial proof rejected (TEV) — format issue
- Missed Studielink deadline (1 May)

- Lodging on your ownThe long-stay entry visa (MVV) is collected at the Dutch embassy in Astana (Kazakhstan) — the Netherlands does not issue it in Bishkek; the university files entry+residence (TEV) with the immigration service (IND) first, then a ~3-month window to collect. Processing runs 4–8 weeks, and you subtract that from your start date yourself.
- What the route already coversThe lodging point and the 4–8 weeks are already written into the visa step.
Nothing here is sold by fear, and nothing here is a promise of admission. If this table convinces you to go alone, it did its job — everything in the right-hand column is open on this page.

After visa: settling in
- 1Register with the municipality (gemeente) to get your BSN (citizen service number) — needed for a bank account, insurance, a job and a phone contract.
- 2Lock down housing BEFORE you fly: the Amsterdam / Utrecht / Delft / Eindhoven shortage is severe. Never transfer a deposit for a room you haven't seen via a verified party — sight-unseen rental scams are common.
- 3Start with your university housing office, then register on ROOM.nl / DUWO and Studentenwoningweb; for Amsterdam run a parallel search on Student Experience, OurCampus, The Social Hub, Hospi Housing, HousingAnywhere and Kamernet.
- 4Open a Dutch bank account once you have a BSN and address (most webshops and rent payments expect iDEAL / a local IBAN).
- 5If you take a side job alongside study you must switch to Dutch basic health insurance (basisverzekering); a pure full-time student keeps international/travel cover instead.
