Document requirements partly collected

Fact

8 items in the pack. Some of them apply to only part of the 77 programmes we hold for this country — the exact list depends on the university.

We review the pack for completeness and consistency. Whether a document is genuine is decided by the university or the consulate. Source verification may be required.

What this route does not require

Not a promise — a rule of the route. Every line is derived from one data field and names what it rests on.

  • No separate work permit is required — the right to work part-time comes with student status.

    Fact
Sources:Residence permit from the immigration service (IND) includes work rights
  • Study is allowed on the status you already hold — a separate student visa is not mandatory for it.

What it does require

The other side of the same list. Amounts and scores are in the facts above.

  • Proof of funds in an account — mandatory.
  • A language certificate — mandatory.

What works on this route

  • TP holders: register in the municipal address register (BRP) within 4 weeks of arrival; use form M35H of the immigration service (IND) for the residence permit.
  • Tijdelijke bescherming valid until 4 March 2027 (EU Council extension). Plan studies within this horizon.
  • Student finance from the Dutch education agency (DUO) is NOT available for TP holders.
  • The long-stay entry visa (MVV) financial proof requires ~€12,500/year — verify source of funds carefully.
  • Orange Tulip Scholarship not available for Ukrainian citizens.

Why applications get rejected

  • Financial proof for the long-stay entry visa (MVV) rejected — wrong format or insufficient amount
  • IELTS below 6.0
  • Tuition payment failed (SWIFT routing issue)

After visa: settling in

  1. 1Register with the municipality (gemeente) to get your BSN (citizen service number) — needed for a bank account, insurance, a job and a phone contract.
  2. 2Lock down housing BEFORE you fly: the Amsterdam / Utrecht / Delft / Eindhoven shortage is severe. Never transfer a deposit for a room you haven't seen via a verified party — sight-unseen rental scams are common.
  3. 3Start with your university housing office, then register on ROOM.nl / DUWO and Studentenwoningweb; for Amsterdam run a parallel search on Student Experience, OurCampus, The Social Hub, Hospi Housing, HousingAnywhere and Kamernet.
  4. 4Open a Dutch bank account once you have a BSN and address (most webshops and rent payments expect iDEAL / a local IBAN).
  5. 5If you take a side job alongside study you must switch to Dutch basic health insurance (basisverzekering); a pure full-time student keeps international/travel cover instead.
